Le Petit Cheval Blanc

 Perhaps the most underrated top level wine in the world is White Bordeaux. Maybe this is because it is mostly a Sauvignon Blanc dominant wine, which many wine enthusiasts scoff at. However, some of these wines are exquisite, such as the 2016 Le Petit Cheval Blanc. Normally, this wine is a Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend, but in 2016 it is 100% Sauvignon Blanc.

The wine is fermented on its lees. Lavender and other floral notes hit the nose. Grapefruit and asparagus flavours dominate the palate, there is pineapple and lime, too. The wine is not grassy. The impression is more of rich bees wax. This is quite a ripe wine, but fresh at the same time. There is a lot going on here. The acidity blends well into the fruit flavours and leads to a long and fine finish.

I cannot say I have tasted a wine like this before. It was well worth it.

Score: 95/+++
